During hurricanes and storms remember to increase your dhikr (remembrance of Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala), recitation of the Qur’an and istighfaar (seeking forgiveness). May Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala keep you and your loved ones safe during the storm. Below are some du’as (prayers) to remember during such times:
اللّهُـمَّ إِنَّـي أَسْـأَلُـكَ خَيْـرَها، وَخَيْـرَ ما فيهـا، وَخَيْـرَ ما اُرْسِلَـتْ بِه، وَأَعـوذُ بِكَ
مِنْ شَـرِّها، وَشَـرِّ ما فيهـا، وَشَـرِّ ما اُرْسِلَـتْ بِه.Allahumma innee as-aluka khayraha wakhayra ma feeha, wakhayra ma orsilat bih, wa-aAAoothu bika min sharriha, washarri ma feeha washarri ma orsilat bih
“O Allah, I ask You for its (the wind’s) goodness, the good within it, and the good it was sent with, and I take refuge with You from its evil, the evil within it, and from the evil it was sent with.”

Seeking knowledge:

1. Du’as from the Qur’an for seeking and mastering knowledge:
These ayats from the Qur’an are from:
(i) Surah Taha (Chapter 20), verses 25-28, (excerpted)
Rabbishrah lee sadree Wayassir lee amree Wahlul ‘uqdatan min lisanee Yafqahoo qawlee
“O my Sustainer! Open up my heart and make my task easy for me, and loosen the knot from my tongue so that they might fully understand my speech.”
(ii) Surah Taha (Chapter 20), verse:114 (excerpted)
Rabbi zidnee ‘ilman
“O my Lord, increase me in knowledge!”
(iii) Surah Ash-Shu’ara (Chapter 26), verses:83-85.
Rabbi hab lee hukman waalhiqnee bialssaliheena Waj’al lee lisana sidqin fee alakhireena Waj’alnee min warathati jannati anna’eem
“My Lord, grant me wisdom, join me with the righteous; give me a good name among later generations,; make me one of those given the Garden of Bliss.”
The above three du’as from the Qur’aan which are helpful in seeking knowledge, are recited very beautifully in the following video by Sheikh Mishary Rashid Al-afasy.

 Islamic Dua For Protection

The Prophet said:

He who recites three times every morning and evening: ‘In the Name of Allah with Whose Name there is protection against every kind of harm in the earth or in the heaven, and He is the All-Hearing and All- Knowing,’ nothing will harm him. (Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi)

Transliteration

 Islamic Dua For Forgiveness

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

“The most superior way of asking for forgiveness from Allah is:
“O Allah! You are my Lord. None has the right to be worshiped except You. You created me and I am your servant and I abide by your covenant and promise as best I can. I seek refuge in you from the evil, which I have committed. I acknowledge your favor upon me and I knowledge my sins, so forgive me, for verily none can forgive sin except you.”
Transliteration
If somebody recites this invocation during the night, and if he should die then, he will go to Paradise (or he will be from the people of Paradise). And if he recites it in the morning, and if he should die on the same day, he will have the same fate.” (Al-Bukhari)

The power of Islamic Dua in the light of Sunnah
Salman Al-Farsi narrated that the Prophet (sa) said: “Indeed, Allah (swt) is Hayy (Generous), when a man raises his hands to Him, He feels too shy to return them to him empty and rejected.” (Tirmidhi)
Allah (swt) loves to see you make Dua. Allah (swt) gets angry, when you do not ask Him or make Dua to Him. Prophet Muhammad (sa) said: “Whoever does not call upon Allah (swt), He will be angry with him.” (Ibn Majah)
Isn’t this so wonderful? Allah (swt) wants us to gain His mercy in every possible way. He is Al –Wadud (the All-loving), and the most important thing to keep in mind is to be patient. Do not be in haste. Don’t keep any negative thoughts about whether you Dua is going to be accepted or not; in fact, erase them totally! “The Dua of any one of you will be answered as long as he is not hasty in seeking a response and does not say, ‘I prayed but I have not had a response.’” (Bukhari, Muslim)
So we all need to try to make a connection with Al-Qareeb (the One Who is near), and He will definitely answer His slaves. Keep seeking for His forgiveness and ask for best in both worlds. May Allah (swt) grant us the highest level in Jannah (Jannat ul Firdaws) and may blessings be upon Muhammad (sa) and his companions. Ameen.
